First up, a neighborhood park about a half-mile from home. I knew this geocache was here for a few months, just never decided to go out of my way to get it yet. Found with a couple of minutes effort, signed the log, took one quick photo (it's barely visible in the middle) and decided to try another I've put off for a couple of years.

The next one has been there in a swampy area by a creek that flows through an east-side neighborhood for some time. I have walked by here a couple of time during the summer and did not choose to go in due to mosquitoes and tall grass. In winter, that is no longer an issue now. However it may have been wiser to try a couple of weeks later.
There really is not any way to approach this geocache site without crossing the creek. I found the narrowest point I could and lept across, then proceeded to step through some thin ice and got my shoes wet/muddied. That was a concern for going back, but I pressed on to the hiding place.

As I scouted a hopefully safer way across the creek, I stepped right through what I though was solid ground and turned out to be a frozen grass over water. Soaked in water above my ankles now, there was no reason not to just cross the creek from where I was now. However, the air temperature was in the low 40 degree range, and the water-soaked shoes/socks/pants are a problem for potential exposure/hypothermia when I'm looking at walking over 1 mile now to get home and out of the wet stuff. I just walked as quickly as a could in the most direct route possible. Potential disaster averted, but lesson learned. I had some misgivings prior to leaping across the water, and I should have minded my instincts. I've been in stickier situations in the past, but it's been a while. I did manage to work out to the tune of over 3 miles covered.
