Ahh, the sun is shining today, the weather was brisk this morning, and I had been itching to get out for a good hike for weeks. My sister called and wanted to get out also, but she needed to be somewhere in the afternoon. I chose this park just a few miles outside the city she lives in with 4 different geocaches to search for.
Astico County park is situated on a sharp bend on a river nearby an old dam and mill. It also features a historic bridge that was relocated to this park after being removed from it's prior service on a nearby road.
Walking down to the river, we can see the mill.
Just up a hill from here is a cemetery with many war veterans buried there. Some graves date from the Civil War.
Our first geocache is located within the cemetery.
Cache number 2 was a multi-stage that required reading numbers off of 2 different campsite signs to plug into a formula to get the final cache location. Some campsites visible here.
And that led us to this container.
Walking along the trail on the river to get to the next one...
Had to cross the river to find this geocache.
Oops! How did that off-topic subject sneak in?
Time to get sis home so she can get to a baptism today.
Covered 3.8 miles in that little park!
However, there is more. I decided to go look for another one between Columbus and my home in Sun Prairie. This one is on public hunting land.
It's supposed to be inside one of these old silos by the parking area.
I say supposed to be because it is missing in action. I saw a previous "did not find" log for this, and I was prepared to not find anything myself. I will notify the geocache's owner so it can either be deactivated or replaced.
