February 7, 2010: Culver Conservancy, Token Creek, Wisconsin

After a very harsh December with a lot of snow-shoveling, I had a hard time convincing myself to get out for any winter hiking in January. My poor back just wanted a rest. Since the weather was relatively fair the past 2 weekends, I started getting an urge to get out and shake the rust off the feet. No geocaching today, just walking in a spot I've visited 4 times in the last year. The Culver Conservancy in Token Creek.

Really I think the winter photos are more spectacular than the summertime photos here. Not so much foliage blocking the views. However since the sky was mostly cloudy with some snow flurries as I was walking, there was not much color to record. I tried converting photos to B/W and also over-saturating color. I suppose either worked out fine.

As I hiked down the driveway (entry gate is closed for the winter) I could hear geese. I stalked them a little, but they eventually became spooked and flew off as I took photos.

I walked down the well-used trail following other people's footsteps. Did around 2.1 miles of walking, getting into some deep snow in a few places to make the workout heavier.

I met a small group of people snowshoeing their way around. Chatted for a short bit, discovered they were part of the park's overseeing board. Had a pleasant visit, and I followed their snowshoe tracks in reverse on my hike. Just being in boots, I think I had the harder workout as I kept sinking into the snow.

I'll try to get out more as we head into the spring season. This blog was getting pretty stale.
